Benefits of tethered operation
As well as being able to takes guests up for rides a tethered balloon
makes a spectacular atraction for an outdoor event such as garden
parties, weddings, birthdays or any number of occassions, when fully
inflated the balloon stands approxamately 80 ft. tall and 70 ft. accross.
Normal turn arround for each tether is about six to ten minutes and
we can take three to four people at a time allowing us to fly up to
30 people a hour .
Night Glow
Very often after tethering for a few hours in the day to take people
for rides we then deflate the balloon but leave it to be re-inflated
later after it has gone dark. During this operation we use the liquid
burner which makes a large yellow flame and lights up the whole of
the inside of the balloon making a giant lightshade. As you may imagine
it is a very spectacular sight.
General
Tethered balloon operations consist of the balloon being inflated
as normal and flown up to a height of not more than sixty meters to
the crown of the balloon (about 100ft, basket to ground). The balloon
is restrained during this operation by three tether ropes set out
in triangular formation from the basket and secured to usually three
vehicles or sometimes trees can be utilised. The ropes are to prevent
lateral movement away from the ground position only and the balloon
is flown up and down by the pilot under its own power just as it would
in free flight.
